By recreating the past, Cambridge Park is the village of tomorrow
Cambridge is a uniquely designed community.
The planning and foresight of its founders ensured present-day residents enjoy a lifestyle found nowhere else in New Zealand.
The owners of Cambridge Park Development needed to look no further than the boundaries of the town for inspiration. It was all there. They merely had to replicate what had worked so well for nearly a hundred and fifty years.
Green belt
For a start, Cambridge is completely encircled by a large green belt. This block-wide area is used extensively by the community for sport and recreational activities.
Trees
Early tree planting on a scale not seen anywhere else in the country ensured that by the beginning of the twenty-first century, Cambridge was endowed with street upon street of magnificent oaks, chestnuts and English plane trees.
Variety and space
The residential area itself was divided up into large one-and-one-quarter acre lots that, over time, were subdivided. This resulted in infill housing ranging in age over many decades. All the features that have made Cambridge a desirable place to live - the green belt, trees, variety and spaciousness - have been included or created by the designers of Cambridge Park to continue the much-loved Cambridge tradition.
